Straight answers

The questions, answered
without the hedging.

No marketing answers to plain questions. 14 of the things people actually ask before they trust a lifting app with years of training data — cost, export, privacy, and how deep the Apple integration really goes.

Cost & ownership

Is flexRep free?

Yes — the free tier is the full logging surface: unlimited workouts and sets, the whole exercise library, CSV and JSON export, HealthKit sync, and Watch logging, with no time limit. The planned one-time Pro unlock adds the advanced analytics, on-device AI insights, custom exercises, importers, and backup bundle. An optional subscription covers only server-backed features like iCloud sync — never logging, export, insights, routines, or body tracking. (Pricing is finalized for the v1.0 release; beta testers train for free.)

Can I export my data?

Yes, and it's free — now and forever. CSV and JSON export are available via the share sheet with no paywall. Every set you've ever logged is included, along with exercise metadata, gym names, and set types. There's also a .flexrep backup bundle with a SHA-256 checksum covering the full schema.

Will there be ads?

No. No ad networks, no tracking SDKs, no exceptions.

Can I import from Strong, Hevy, or Fitbod?

Strong CSV and Hevy CSV imports ship today, along with a generic-CSV importer with manual column mapping. Each import previews exercise matches before commit and can be reverted as a single batch. A Fitbod-specific path isn’t first-class yet — the generic CSV importer covers most cases.

Privacy & data

Is my data private?

Yes. Local-first storage, on-device AI, no analytics SDKs, no ad networks. There is no flexRep server. When cloud sync is on, it runs through your own private iCloud account — we never see your data.

Does it work offline?

Yes. All data is stored locally on your device. No internet connection is required to log sets, view history, or export your data.

Does it sync across devices?

iCloud sync runs through your own private CloudKit database as part of the Cloud tier — flexRep runs no backend and holds no keys, so the sync is strictly between your devices, in your account. Conflict handling today is last-writer-wins per property; full per-field merge is planned post-beta. Everything works fully offline without it.

Apple ecosystem

Does it work with Apple Health?

Yes — two-way, with per-set detail in both directions. flexRep writes workouts as Strength Training with HKWorkoutEvent segments carrying weight, reps, RPE, and set type for every set — not just an envelope. Body weight and body fat sync independently. Imports carry a quality tier and a source-app tag, so you always know what's authoritative.

How does voice logging work?

A microphone button sits next to the Log button in Quick Log. Hold to talk or tap to toggle, then say “two-twenty-five for five” — the steppers fill in, you see the parse, you tap Log. AirPods press and “Hey Siri, log a set in flexRep” run the same on-device parser. Speech is recognized via Apple’s SFSpeechRecognizer; nothing is uploaded. It’s opt-in and off by default.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

A companion Watch app ships today with durable offline queueing, a complication, and dictation-driven Quick Log. The fuller standalone watchOS app — Double Tap logging, Digital Crown weight adjustment, a Smart Stack card, and live HKLiveWorkoutBuilder writes — is planned for a later release.

How does the AI insights feature work?

It uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework to generate weekly training summaries and trend analysis. Your data never leaves your device. The AI paraphrases rule-based diagnostics with cited numbers — never raw, unvalidated aggregates. It requires Apple Intelligence hardware.

Logging & setup

What happens when I open the app for the first time?

The app opens directly into Quick Log — no onboarding wizard, no profile questionnaire, no permission prompts. Tap Begin Workout, pick an exercise, log a set. Profile fields like name, units, goals, and training context live in Settings under “Walk through setup” if you want them later.

How many exercises are included?

There are 873 exercises in a curated seed library, plus unlimited custom exercises you create yourself.

What units does it support?

Pounds and kilograms. All weight is stored canonically in kilograms and converted to your display preference at the view layer. Switching units is instant and changes zero database rows.
