Most lifting apps assume the absence of pain. flexRep assumes the opposite — that lifters with histories, sensitivities, or recent injuries deserve a tool that lets them train at intensity without ignoring the body that's reporting back.

A pain entry is a real, first-class log.

Log pain at any granularity — daily, per-workout, per-performance, per-set. 0–10 NRS scale. Onset (during / after / next-day). Anatomy grid defaults to the last-used location. The exercise picker shows a 🩹 badge on lifts with three or more pain entries in the last 30 days.

ACWR — the load ratio that catches spikes.

Acute (7-day) volume over chronic (28-day) volume. Banister / Gabbett 2016. The chart bands turn yellow at 1.3–1.5 and red above 1.5. Soft notification once per 7-day window — never spam. Cited in the methodology card.

The AI knows when to say "see a clinician."

The verdict-mode insight returns a typed action — add_set · drop_volume · deload · see_clinician · stay_course — with a confidence score. When sustained ACWR red-band crosses persistent pain at the same location, see_clinician is on the table. No false certainty.

The chart that watches your load

ACWR — acute:chronic workload ratio.

Seven-day volume divided by twenty-eight-day volume. A reading inside the green band is sustainable load. Yellow (1.3–1.5) means watch your sleep and soreness. Red (above 1.5) is where the injury-rate curve steepens in the literature — and where the soft notification fires, once per 7-day window. The chart sits in your Analysis tab as a small, persistent indicator.

Verdict-mode AI with a see-clinician action

On-device intelligence. Returns a specific action — add a set, drop volume, deload, see a clinician, stay the course — with a target, a reason, and a confidence number. The "see a clinician" suggestion is framed explicitly, never tucked into a paraphrase. And the AI is goal-aware: a specialization phase in grip, climbing, or strongman work is read as specialization, not imbalance.

Conservative stall detection

Regression with confidence-interval gating. The classifier won't cry stall during a planned deload, and the hypertrophy phase classifier means a high-rep block reads as a phase. Catches real plateaus; misses the false alarms.
